There is something definitely wrong in a democratic society where a significant percent of the population is written off as being politically un-representable, especially as I’m one of them – an atheist.    This has to end.  “The Out Campaign” was created to tell the world that we exist in even greater numbers than ever before and it’s time we were properly represented.  When I first ran for federal politics in 2004 I ran as a very public atheist, possibly the first from a major political party in Canada to do so.  I’ve now put my name to this new campaign as a means of further encouraging others to do the same.

Political candidates and politicians often wear their religious stripes on their sleeves, often secretly having no religion or faith at all.  It’s about time the truth was told.  We atheists are out in huge numbers and it’s time we stood up to be counted in a properly worded census, and be properly represented by atheist politicians.  That time is now.
