In yet another blow to the future of Canada and another sign that the theo-con-driven Stephen Harper Conservatives are completely out of touch with modern scientific reality, Industry Canada has just confirmed that the National Science Advisor position and office will be phased out this year. This position was tasked with providing independent advice on global science and technology issues to the prime minister and cabinet.
And, as reported by Margaret Munro of the Ottawa Citizen (Friday, Feb. 1, 2008), “Environment Canada has ‘muzzled’ its scientists, ordering them to refer all media queries to the federal government, where communications officers will help them respond with ‘approved lines.’ ”
